As far as Hollywood’s entertainment movies is concerned, Micheal Mann in one of the big names. Whether we like it or not, it seems hard not to have heard of any of his past films: Miami Vice, Collateral, Ali, Heat, The last of the Mohicans… Mann has recently finished producing his last film, Public Enemies, which will recall the well known story of the American gangster John Dillinger, tracked down during many years by the legendary FBI agent Melvin Purvis.
Even the most doubtful minds should be tempted when discovering that names such as Johnny Depp (staring as Dillinger), Christian Bale (playing Purvis) and Marion Cotillard have been added to the project! A talented director added to a golden synopsis together with a dream cast…the outcome is quite easy to guess: the release date 1st July should become a memorable day for all action movie fans!
The coming out of a new episode is often the opportunity for video publishers to release on the market one or more of the saga’s former episodes. But when it comes to James Cameron’s Terminator, releasing yet another edition could sound quite useless, knowing the great variety of already existing DVDs for Terminator 2 Judgement Day (special edition, collector, ultimate, extreme…)
Nevertheless, the new Blu-ray edition from T2 should be quite a curiosity for collectors, as LionsGate went all out for the “Limited Edition T2 Complete Collector’s Set”. With only 1000 copies to be released, the wrapping case of this new edition basically replicates a T-800 Endoskeleton’s chromium plated bust, enhanced with an electronic circuit that lightens up the eyes and plays several sound effects.
It will also be a real delight for fans as far as the content is concerned. Indeed, the Blu-ray will contain the three versions of the film (movie theatre version, director’s cut and director’s cut long version) and all three DVDs will present bonuses (two audio comments, embed bonus images on the picture, extras to be downloaded via BD-Live, etc). It seems likely that T2 addicts will have to fight over it on 19th Mai, the release date. Together with Terminator Salvation’s coming out, May will definitely be marked by war against Skynet…
It’s been a few weeks now since the waned superheroes from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel have invaded movie theatres world wide. The many who thought that this DC Comic masterpiece, published in 1986, could never be correctly adapted to the big screen were proven wrong, as it actually turned out to be a success!
The Comedian has been murdered. The death of one of the best-known costumed crimefighters triggers something in men and women who once pulled on their tights and kept the streets safe from bad guys - that is until they themselves were outlawed. In trying to find out what who’s been bumping off former heroes, Rorschach, The Silk Spectre and Nite Owl II will uncover something much darker, which could bring about the end of the world as we know it.
Key factors for such a movie achievement are a much complex and thoughtful scenario with disenchanted heroes seeming humanly weak, added to Frank Miller’s dynamic direction. However success seems kind of logical when based on one of the best comic books of all times! How pleasant to finally be able to contemplate live the arrest of Rorschach, the atomic accident of Dr Manhattan as well as Eddie Blake’s impulses, alias the Comedian… Together with The Dark Knight, superhero films have scarcely ever reached such ripeness and been so gloomy…
France during the German occupation. Brought up by Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), a group of Allies soldiers are being sentenced to death unless they accept a suicidal mission: getting rid of main 3rd Reich’s leaders.
It is based on this Hitlerian war time that the new full length of Quentin Tarantino -soberly entitled Inglorious Basterds- will be taking shape. With this bloody Nazi hunt, the director of Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill is now having his go at war movies. Harshly, 21st of July 2009 still seems pretty far away when having seen the trailer… In the meantime, why don’t we bring out Medal of Honnor, or even Wolfenstein 3D just to hold on?
