Death in 3D

4th episode from the saga whose heroine is Death, The Final Destination also known as Final Destination 4 is now on screen since last Friday. Directed by David R. Ellis, who is already responsible for Final Destination 2 as well as the rather mediocre Cellular and the very pleasant Snakes on a Plane, the young cast made of Krista Allen, Nick Zano and Shantel VanSanten will somehow try to escape to a painful but unavoidable death. Hence, the concept hasn’t changed a bit, only for this that slaughters will now be happening in 3D… A macabre show in relief that might stain your 3D glasses!affiche

The fickle hand of fate descends once more upon a group of teenage survivors after one of their number helps them to cheat death following a horrific accident at a car racing circuit. The Grim Reaper is not one to let his quarry slip through his bony fingers, however, as he sets about collecting his dues in a series of increasingly outrageous ways - and all in glorious 3-D too!

The Shape is back

One of the scariest bogeymen of all slashers is back on this Friday, August 28th and will crack down under the direction of one of the greatest directors that rock music has ever known. Indeed, the long wait is over as the famous masked murderer from Haddonfield Micheal Myers is coming back to chase teenagers. Rod Zombie, who was already the one to direct in 2007 the remake from this cult old school horror masterpiece, will stay in command to the delight of many fans.  Fans should also feel comfortable as the same cast can be found in Halloween H2 : Taylor-Compton, Malcolm McDowell, Sheri Moon, Tyler Mane, etc. Blood bath lovers can now rejoice as the show seems as good, or even better than in 2007…

Basterds on screen

After having terrorized nazis three weeks ago at Fantasia Festival , the very awaited Inglorious Basterds from Quentin Tarrantino has finally arrived in North America”s movie theatres. As usual, Hollywood’s greatest movie director has managed for his seventh feature to gather a great cast (Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Micheal Fassbender, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger…) to play in this third reich leader’s hunt taking place during World War II. So be ready to sharpen bayonets, get the pop corn out and appreciate this futur masterpiece…

Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) leads a group of Jewish-American soldiers - the Inglourious Basterds of the title - on a mission to exact revenge on and spread fear among Nazi soldiers. Meanwhile, a Jewish girl, whose family was exterminated, flees to Paris and begins working at a movie theatre where a German war hero turned movie actor is expected to premiere his latest propaganda film. The Basterds and the young girl soon cross paths and a plan is hatched to unleash bloody retribution.

The Last DVD on the Left

Though Wes Craven wasn’t very lucky lately concerning his last productions, he is a little more fortunate with recent remakes from his work. After the well-made The Hills Have Eyes (remake from Alexandre Aka, a French director emigrated to the US), the remake directed by Dennis Iliadis from his “rape and revenge” called The Last House on the Left, available in DVD and Blu-ray since last August 18th, turns out to be as good as his 1972 original.

Shortly after their arrival at a remote lakehouse, Mari is abducted by an escaped convict and his accomplices. After hearing of her terrifying story, her family seek to take revenge on the murderous fugitives.

The steady pace prevents us from getting bored and enables the whole to be slightly superior than usual. Though the acting is sometimes a little narrow, the plausible scenario will lead us to a few good surprises thanks to its good directing (some very good ideas from time to time). Fans of the genre must definitely see the movie at least once; others might find it a little more debatable. The video edition will give you access to the unrated version as well as a few cut scenes. In a word, The last house on the left could be a nice movie shelter while waiting for Wes Craven’s masterpiece remake from Nightmare on Elm Street…
