It seems cinema of genre has been rather healthy during these past months. After this summer’s very good releases (including the great District 9), the time has come for the strange (and trash) Pandorum to show up its bloody face. From what can be seen in the trailer, this science fiction-like thriller seems to draw his inspiration from cult movies such as Alien or Event Horizon and it looks pretty good. Directed by Christian Alvart and staring Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, Pandorum will be showing from tomorrow Friday October 2nd in North America. As is often the case in this kind of production, the feature appearing as a penniless B series, compensates thanks to a clever direction and great pictures… Let’s just hope the show will rise to the occasion…
Two spaceship crew members awake from a hyper sleep chamber only to realise they are not alone on their supposedly abandonded craft. Disorientated and confused, they can’t remember anything about themselves or their mission, but upon further investigation they discover a truth that is far more shocking than they could have possibly imagined.
Well there is one thing that cannot be denied as far as Megan Fox is concerned, that is how attractive she is. Thus, why not conceive a feature purely focussing on Transformer’s heroine physical advantages? The dream of thousands of masculine fans should come true on this Friday September 18th, release date from Jennifer’s Body.
Directed by Karyn Kusama with a scenario from Diablo Cody (who received an Oscar for Juno), this seemingly teenage movie will change Megan Fox into a possessed cheerleader, dangerous as a praying mantis to her masculine classmates. Adding to this Amanda Seyfried, playing the role of a friend who decided not to let everybody be wolfed down so easily. No doubt that her charms should assure part of the horror movie’s success, to be savoured eyes wide open…
After Cypher, the cult Cube and the strange but pleasant Nothing, the “intelligent fantasy” genius Vincenzo Natali comes back with the very awaited Splice. Produced by Guillermo Del Toro, Don Murphy and Susan Montford via AngryFilms, the feature staring Sarah Polley (Dawn of the dead) and the great Adrien Brody (The Jacket, King Kong and The Village) is a fantasy thriller whose main subject is genetic manipulation. Great science fiction lover, Vincenzo Natali stands out from current genre productions thanks to his sober but effective way of directing that strongly contrasts with the singularity and oddness of the themes approached in his movies… No doubt that Splice, coming out on September 18th ,will be as interesting and atypical as ever!
Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named “Dren”, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly.
After the crazy Crank, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are coming back on screens with a new movie that seems to be just as weird as the previous one. Gamer, is a leisure time that you can enjoy as soon as tomorrow in movie theatres and that will offer you to discover a scary world where video games become more real than real life itself in a very wild game! The game’s hero Kable, played by Gerard Butler, will try escaping in order to find his family back… In addition to the Scottish actor already hero in 300 and Rock’n Rolla, Gamer will be staring other friendly faces such as Micheal C.Hall (known for its Dexter part), Milo Ventimiglia (seen in Heroes) and Zoe Bell. With the release of The Surrogates at the end of this month, it seems directors tend to look more and more on the thinning edge between cyberspace and reality…
The story takes place in a dystopian future of implanted nano-devices, where the ultimate online simulation environment is humans remote-controlling other humans in mass-scale, multiplayer online gaming. The lead character, played by Butler, is a worldwide sensation, and the top-ranked warrior in a game called “Slayers.” With his every move tracked by millions, he battles to regain his identity and bring down the entire system.
