Several months have gone by now since we last heard anything new concerning Takeshi Koike’s exciting project Redline. Now provided with a new trailer, a poster as well as an official Twitter (http://twitter.com/REDLINE_ACB), it is a delight to bring once more up this animation that comes straight from Madhouse studio! Directed by Takeshi Koike (already responsible for Animatrix’s sketch “World Record”) and designed by Katsuhito Ishii, this animated and overexcited Japanese version from Wacky Races is the continuation to 2001’s Trava: Fist Planet. With around 8 million dollars budget, the feature is now done and has even been shown last month in Annecy’s international film festival! Please take a look at both pictures under which introduce us to the hotspurs taking part to this futuristic race and their fast cars… All we have to do now is wait for a more satisfying release time than just “autumn 2010” as it is currently mentioned on the official website (http://red-line.jp/)…

Directed by the excellent and French Joann Sfar (the actual author from the original comic book), Le Chat du Rabbin (The Rabbi’s Cat) takes place in Alger during the 20s through the memories of a little travelling cat that belongs to a rabbi. Due on November 3rd 2010 on French screens, the following pictures enable us to catch a first glimpse of the movie’s graphics. Both François Morel and Maurice Benichou will lend their voices to the cat and rabbi in this feature that we hope to be just as delightful as the original paper versions (5 volumes in total translated into 8 different languages). Therefore, in the hope that they should soon become animated, find out here below the feature’s first pictures its rather strange visual atmosphere…

Produced by Terry Gilliam, the curious Anglo-French project called 1884-Yesterday’s Future is progressively unveiling on the internet. Although the video in question isn’t quite representative from what the final visual aspect should be (created by Tim Ollive in order to find financial support), it still gives us some indications regarding the steampunk atmosphere and the Victorian architecture in which the scenario should be taking place. Currently being finalized, the feature will mix 2D and 3D animation with some stop-motion parts (puppets)… This being said, this Anglo-French co-production should definitely raise some curiosity among animation fans looking for something unusual! For more info on the subject, then please take a look at the video beneath!

For months now we have been talking, rejoicing and watching the trailer over and over, but these many illustrations aren’t enough anymore. And now that we can barely wait any longer, it’s finally over! As you probably understood by now, Toy Story’s 3rd episode is coming out tomorrow and becoming a major animation event, thanks to Pixar! It is now time to meet again with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Mr and Mrs Potato Head, Slinky Dog, Rex, Ham, Barbie, Ken and the rest of the band, though it actually feels like they were already there along the past months, due to Disney’s rather heavy marketing campaign! Nevertheless, the experience promises to be funny, moving and (as usual) graphically really good! Before we discover the animation, here are some new pictures as well as trailers that only online fans should know of, as they were released on the internet only!

As French and multitalented director, Sylvain Chomet is once again under this week’s limelight with his latest animated feature’s release in France: L’illusionniste. After the successful Triplettes de Belleville, the famous cartoonist chose to animate this time an unknown story from the French famous film director Jacques Tati. Based on a private letter that Tati wrote to his long time abandoned daughter, the scenario mostly focuses on father and daughter relationships. Supposed to be postponed from 2007 to 2008, the animation wasn’t actually presented until last February during Dublin’s festival. So let’s hope it could finally one day cross the Atlantic Ocean!

In the late 50s, the world of musical is turned upside down by the emergence of rock& roll and all its young stars. Traditional shows such as jugglers, acrobats and ventriloquists are out of date. Being a magician, the hero knows his artistic profession is in danger as job offers become more and more seldom. Taking all his doves and rabbits with him, he therefore decides to leave Paris and its great halls of fame to settle to London. However, the situation in the UK is as bad as everywhere else and he finally resigns to playing in local pubs, garden parties and little theatres, until the day when in a Scottish village he meets Alice, a young and innocent girl who is about to change his life…

There was a time, not so long ago, when each coming out movie was first preceded by a short animated feature. Back then, Chuck Jones’ Looney Tunes were the kings of animation and the fight against Disney was tense. However this time is over now the Disney bulldozer has wiped it all… and set Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck to become no less than childhood memories. To solve this general loss of interest for its favourite characters, Warner Bros has decided to produce 6 new short animated features in 3D to be presented prior to the next studio’s features! Hence, some of us will rediscover with teary eyes on July 30th the first one, staring Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner as an introduction to the movie Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Gallore! Find out beneath the very first picture of the 2010 Coyote in 3D…

Formerly entitled « Master Mind » and « Obermind », the animated feature Megamind is still unveiling little by little on the internet. Directed by Tom McGrath and produced by Ben Stiller on the behalf of Dreamworks Animation studios, the 3D satirical comedy focuses on Megamind, a super bad guy totally depressed by the fact he has incidentally killed one of his greatest enemies, Metro Man… The promising and original scenario is completed by great voices: Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Tina Fey. Regarding the latest news, a trailer has finally been posted on Yahoo!Movie, proudly standing next to a new teaser poster! Such additional info have been more than welcomed though the feature still isn’t coming out till November 2010…

Po, the fat-bellied and clumsy panda who became a master in Kung Fu will have the privilege of being back on screen in another long feature. After his first adventures’ success (around 632 million dollars at the box office), it seems quite normal that Dreamworks would announce a second episode to Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom. A great occasion for the initial team to gather once more and create a continuation to Po and the Five Cyclones’ adventures. Indeed, fans of the first one will be delighted to hear that Jack Black, Lucy Liu, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen and David Cross will once more be part of the vocal cast, completed this time with Gary Oldman (voicing the Peacock). The major change actually concerns the production with Jennifer Yuh Nelson, former scriptwriter for the first one, who now is in charge of directing the 3D animation, planed to arrive in the US in June 2011!

The announcement of a future Dead Space 2 was the perfect time to have an article especially devoted to the animated feature Dead Space: Downfall. Released in video a year and a half ago, the feature is actually a prequel to the video game Dead Space 1, recounting the defeat of Ishimura, filled with rescue missions and bloody Necromorphs fights. Developed by Electronic Arts and Film Roman studio, the animation can also be compared to Antony Johnston and Ben Templesmith’s comic book that relates the events happening during the same time period in Aegis’ colony. With this feature and the comic book, Electronic Arts has cleverly used the rich environment of this hair-raising video game, and has gone even further by working hard on recreating the mythology and story of how the terrible virus responsible for Necromorphs first appeared. If not already purchased, fans of the game should be delighted with such devices that enable them to have the trying Dead Space experience last a little longer, half way between Event Horizon and Alien…
