For many years, Square Enix has been preparing the release of its next hit (many times delayed) supported by extensive media coverage and screenshots in specialised magazines. Considering that the future hit is called Dragon Quest IX, we can now understand better the despair of fans and specialists when hearing continuous delay announcements from the Japanese firm in charge of the two most successful RPG video sagas (not just Dragon Quest but also Final Fantasy). Since its first episode’s release on the 8 bits Nintendo game console in 1986, Dragon Quest (better known as Dragon Warrior in the US) has become a real social phenomenon in Japan. The release of Dragon Quest IX on 11th July exclusively for Nintendo DS should continue the movement…
Expected on house video console and maybe even more popular than Final Fantasy in Japan, this 9th episode marks the return of the Dragon Quest Saga. Based mostly on what the ancient episodes had established, this one also presents many new features such as the ability to create you own characters as well as a multi player mode in which four adventurers can destroy goblins together. For sure, this RPG will be new success in Japan, however still no release date has been announced yet for the rest of the world, which is a little worrying… Let’s just hope that the international success reserved to the 8th episode will have an effect on Square Enix’s decision…
